It was really awesome. I don’t remember if I has any issues with it as far as singal is concerned. Travelled to Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Granada, Marbella, Cadiz and Seville. Signal strength was excellent. Skype and whatsup helped me keep in touch with my team back in the home country.

I Want Internet on my trip to Chile

FROM ATACAMA DESERT TO THE CHILENE PATAGONIA

Santiago de Chile is the perfect starting point to discover the country due to its famous neighbourhoods, modern restaurants, art centres and active life style. From San Cristobal Hill you can contemplate the entire city while you chose the places to visit. We recommend the bohemian environment of the Neighbourhood Bellas Artes or Bellavista, the Santiago Metropolitan Park, the Cathedral of Santiago de Chile, the National Mint, the square Plaza de Armas, the Museum of Memory and Human Rights, the Bicentenary Fountain and if you like winter sports only 46km away the Valle Nevado ski resort is located. Across the country, there are all kinds of tourist attractions that will surprise you: The Valley of the Moon and the Valley of Death in Atacama Desert, the city of Iquique and its beaches, Moai and Rapa Nui culture in Easter Island, Valparaiso also known as “the Pacific Gem”, the islands and fishermen bays of Chiloé archipelago, the south road through the Chilean Patagonia, San Rafael Glacier or the Torres del Paine National Park.

DATA ABOUT THE COUNTRY

The Republic of Chile borders Peru, Bolivia and Argentina in its south-eastern part of America and has a total surface of 756.102km2 where 6.435 correspond to the coastline. Chile is a Presidential Democratic Republic with an estimated population of 18 million citizens and the majority of them live in urban areas (one of the most remarkable demographical features of the country is that over 86% of Chilean people live in big cities). Chile is divided into 15 regions, 54 provinces and 346 communities; as an interesting fact, each region has a roman number which was in the past used to stablish an origin from North to South. Therefore, for example Atacama has the number III and Valparaiso number V. Chile is located in the Ring of Fire with a second biggest and most active volcanic chain in the world. The official language is Spanish, although its citizens speak several dialects like Chilean Spanish, Andean Spanish or Chilote Spanish.

USEFUL TIPS: ELECTRICITY, CURRENCY, SECURITY AND VISA IN CHILE

Electricity in Chile is 220V/50 Hz and you will need an electricity adapter which can be easily found at any supermarket. The official currency is the Chilean Peso (CLP), and the most comfortable way to exchange money is through cash points. The limit is 320.000 Chilean pesos daily. Take into account that big hotels accept dollars and even euros. Regarding tips, normally a 10% of the total price to be paid at restaurants, around 200 pesos to people assisting at petrol stations or car parks, and tips to taxi drivers aren’t normally given. Chile is one of the most secure countries in Latin America, although we recommend you take special attention to marginal neighbourhoods and city centre, as well as tourist places where pickpockets are quite common. You will need no visa if you belong to an EU country and if you travel as a tourist and for a period not exceeding 90 days. Don’t forget your passport and return ticket.

STARS AT HOTELS

Bearn in mind that hotels in Chile don’t follow the classification system stablished with respect to its facilities, services and quality. Therefore, don’t follow starts shown and get information in advance about the size of rooms, if private bathroom is included, breakfast buffet, car parks or location. You can check all information by looking at the opinions of other travellers in online webs like Booking or Tripadvisor. You can find a wide variety of affordable guesthouses, very few hostels, and if you travel by car a good alternative is to stay in Panamerica motels.
