Over 55 million tourists travelled to China the past year. Can you guess the most visited places by travellers? TOURISM IN THE GREAT WALL OF CHINA

It is estimated that 53.000 people walk across the Great Wall of China daily; it is one of the Seven Wonders of the World and the main tourist attraction of the country. It consists of 8.852 km and is a set of fortifications built between the 4th Century B.C. and the 16th Century B.C. This immerse journey across the Wall include all kinds of landscapes, such as deserts, mountains, valleys, meadows…is not true the fact that the Wall can be seen from the moon, but only a myth. What is certain is that the Wall is one of the most amazing pieces of art made by humans. If you are planning on visiting the Great Wall of China, you should know that only 2 of its 16 sections are opened to visitors; from 06.30 to 19.00 hours in summer and from 07.00 to 18.00 in winter. The ticket costs between 40 and 45 yuan.

THE PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF CHINA – INFORMATION ABOUT THE COUNTRY

The People’s Republic of China is located in East Asia, the third biggest country in the world with a surface of 9.5 million km2 and the most populated country with over 1.300 million citizens. It is considered one of the most ancient civilizations in the world, and today is the first economic power worldwide. In relation to politics, the country is governed by the Communist Party of China (CPC), divided into 22 provinces plus Taiwan and 5 autonomous regions, amongst which the Tibet state is included. In addition, Macau and Hong Kong are part of China as special territories. The capital is Beijing and the most populated city is Shanghai. Mandarin Chinese is the official language. This country has the largest land frontier in the world and borders 14 countries in total. The dry season and monsoons define the Chinese climate and is considered a “megadiverse” country regarding flora and fauna, while air pollution is a serious public health problem in China.

SOME TIPS FOR YOUR TRIP TO CHINA

If you are preparing your next trip to China bear in mind that you will need a visa L, tourist visa that can be processed in your nearest Embassy or Consulate. It will cost you between 30 and 140 dollars, depending on the country you come from. How will you travel to this enormous country? Many tourists choose to travel in organized trip with a tourist guide, mainly due to language and cultural differences, however an independent visit to the country is another great alternative because is one of the most secure countries and has an excellent transport infrastructure to get around the country. In any case, travel insurance is necessary in order to avoid paying hundreds or even thousands of euros in case you need health assistance. Don’t forget your valid passport because will be needed in many occasions, for example in order to check-in at the hotel. Remember that many websites you are used to visit like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube or WordPress are blocked.

OFFICIAL CURRENCY AND PRICES

Although you probably have never heard of it, Renminbi (RMB) is the official currency in China. However, you might have heard of Yuan (元), the name used by Chinese people to call their currency. You can pay by credit card or exchange money easily and cash points are everywhere. Prices in China are affordable for western people. You can get an idea with the following prices: Metro in Beijing costs 2 yuan and a bus ticket costs only 0,4 yuan. Taxis are cheap and for only 5 yuan you can cross the city. A McDonald’s menu will cost you only 24 yuan, equivalent to 3 euros, while the traditional local food is even cheaper. You can eat a dish with Chinese noodles or rice for 6 yuan (0,8€).
