It was really awesome. I don’t remember if I has any issues with it as far as singal is concerned. Travelled to Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Granada, Marbella, Cadiz and Seville. Signal strength was excellent. Skype and whatsup helped me keep in touch with my team back in the home country.

ONE OF THE TOP TEN TOURIST COUNTRIES

Italy is, after France and Spain, the third country most visited in Europe and the fifth favourite destination for tourists from all around the world. Each year, 46 million travellers choose Italy to spend their holidays. Roma, the city with the largest number of historic buildings, leads the list of most visited Italian cities, followed by Venice and its channels; Florence and its architecture; and Bologna with its student and intercultural environment. Other Italian cities like Milan, Geneva, Bari or Palermo and Verona are increasingly visited by international travellers.

ITALY IN GENERAL

Italy has a total area of 301.340 km2 and 7.600 km of Mediterranean coastline. Population in Italy exceeds 59 million citizens, being Milan the most populated city. The official language is Italian, however there are several dialects depending on the region; and the Government is a parliamentary republic. It is officially named Italian Republic and consists of the Italic Peninsula, Po Valley and the islands Sardinia and Sicilia. The capital of Italy is Rome and is considered a Holy City for Catholics where the small state of the Vatican is located.

OPENING HOURS TO VISIT MONUMENTS AND ITALIAN SHOPS

In the vast majority of Italian cities and tourist villages, main monuments and interesting centres for the traveller like basilica or churches open at 8.30h and close early in the afternoon around 16.30h. The closing hours are normally extended until around 19.00h during summer months. Museums open all year around from 09.00h to 19.00/20.00h, also close during lunch and open again from 16.00 to 20.00h. Shopping centres and shops in big cities have continued opening hours from 09.00 to 21.00. You should bear in mind that the majority of shops close on Sundays and Monday mornings.

CURRENCY AND BANKS

As you know, Italy is part of the European Union, so the euro is the official currency of the country since 2002. Don’t forget that Italian banks open from Monday to Friday from 08.30 to 13.00 and 15.30 to 16.30h. In addition, you can change currency at banks, money transfer centres or post office. If you use the credit card on your trips you can in the majority of hotels, restaurants, shops, supermarkets, etc… Visa and Mastercard are the most popular ones in Italy.

INTERESTING DATA FOR THE TOURIST: VISA, SECURITY AND HEALTH

You will have to request a visa if you are planning on visiting Italy and you aren’t a European citizen, or you are from one of the countries included in the so called Schengen Area (http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Espacio_de_Schengen). You should know that the official tourism website provides information regarding security and tips for the traveller: http://www.italia.it/es/informacion-util/seguridad.html. Be careful in main tourist places in Rome because thefts are frequent, the region with moderate risk level is Napoli and in its surroundings crime is quite common. If you are a European citizen, you should carry the European Health Card with you on your trip, in order to have health assistance in Italy. If you travel to Italy coming from outside the EU don’t forget to hire a health.
