It was really awesome. I don’t remember if I has any issues with it as far as singal is concerned. Travelled to Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Granada, Marbella, Cadiz and Seville. Signal strength was excellent. Skype and whatsup helped me keep in touch with my team back in the home country.

THE ESSENTIALS OF MACAU

The Historic Centre of Macau with colonial architecture areas which remind of its Portuguese past, like Senado Square; the ruins of Saint Paul’s Cathedral; Macau Museum in Mountain Fortress; the leisure centre Fisherman’s Wharf; Macau Tower perfect to view the city; A-Ma Temple or Ling Fong Temple; as well as the beautiful beaches of Coloane Island and Tapia Island; are some essential visits in this region where 27 million international tourists visit each year. Macau has also become the leading Chinese destination to spend the weekend. There are buildings full of history, museums, beaches, golf camps and of course casinos; these aspects have turned Macau into a tourist destination with unique personality.

MACAU, LIKE HONG KONG, IS A SPECIAL TERRITORY IN CHINA

Macau Special Administrative Region, also known as “Macau” is located in the south coast of China, close to Hong Kong and as well as this territory, has its own capitalist economic system and democratic political system. Macau was a Portuguese colony for a period of 450 years, until 1999 when finally re-joined China. You will be amazed by the coexistence between the most traditional China and Portuguese culture; very unique aspect that captivates travellers. Geographically, Macau has a total surface of 29 km2 and is comprised of a peninsular part linked to China, Taipa Island and Coloane Island. It has 556.000 citizens and considered the most populated region in the world, with over 18.000 citizens per km2. The official languages in this territory are Cantonese and Portuguese, although the vast majority of people speak Cantonese and English.

“LAS VEGAS IN CHINA”

Along with Las Vegas, Macau is considered world capital of gambling and shows. In recent years, several gambling magnates have invested in incredible casinos found in the city where you will find over 40 casinos and of course the biggest casino in the world. The Venetian Macau, belonging to the chain Las Vegas Sands, has over 16.000 employees, 40 floors and includes a spectacular hotel. In Macau gambling is a tradition of over 150 years old and represents 70% of the economy, while in the rest of China and Hong Kong casinos are banned. Casino Gran Lisboa, City of Dreams or Wynn Casino Macau are some other important casinos.

WHAT IS THE OFFICIAL CURRENCY IN MACAU?

The official currency in Macau is Pataca (MOP$), although the Hong Kong Dollar and Chinese Yuan are also accepted. You can exchange money at the International Airport of Macau, as well as at hotels and casinos. One Pataca is equivalent to 100 avos (cents). 1 euro is equivalent to 09,05 MOP$ and 1 American dollar is equivalent to 7,93 MOP$. In Macau, there are several casinos which don’t accept Hong Kong dollars. Along with New York, Macau is the city where accommodation rates are highest in the world. You can stay one night for 135 euros on average.

DON’T FORGET THE PASSPORT

You will need no passport if you come from the European Union and you travel as a tourist for a period not exceeding 90 days. The passport needs to be valid in order to be provided in customs, port or airport. If you wish to travel from Macau to Hong Kong you will need no visa, although you should bring your valid passport. On the other hand, you will need to process the visa in order to travel from Macau to the rest of China.
