It was really awesome. I don’t remember if I has any issues with it as far as singal is concerned. Travelled to Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Granada, Marbella, Cadiz and Seville. Signal strength was excellent. Skype and whatsup helped me keep in touch with my team back in the home country.

SRI LANKA – ONE OF THE GREATEST BUDDHIST ENVIRONMENTS IN THE WORLD

The Sacred City of Anuradhapura of the Sacred City of Kandy, the ancient cities of Polonnaruwa and Sigiriya, Sinharaja Forest Reserve, Old Town of Galle, the Dambulla Golden Temple and its giant Buddha or Central Highlands of Sri Lanka are some of the most visited places as well as World Heritage Site. Buddhist or Hindi centres; exotic beaches; rice fields; elephant reserves like Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage that gathers and takes care of around one hundred harmed or abused elephants; Botanic gardens and spices; wales, dolphins, and other submarine fauna that attracts snorkelling lovers from all around the world… Sri Lank is a true paradise on earth.

“CEYLON”, “THE ISLAND OF HUNDRED NAMES”, OR THE “INDIAN TEAR”

Throughout the history of Sri Lanka, this country has been called Lanka, Lankadvipa, Simoundou, Serendib or Selanha, among others. When conquered it started to be called “Ceylon”, still in use and in 1972 this country started to be called Sri Lanka. Due to this reason, Sri Lanka is known as “the island of hundred names” and moreover, as it is located close to India and the strange shape of the territory gives the name “the Tear of India”.

DATA ABOUT THE COUNTRY, CAPITAL SRI JAYAWARDENAPURA KOTTE, AND COLOMBO

Sri Lanka is located in the Indic Ocean, between Bengala Gulf and Oman Sea, Sri Lanka belongs to Asia and the capital is Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte, also known as Kotte, being Colombo the main and most crowed city. The official languages are Sinhalese and Tamil, is governed by a parliamentary republic, exceeds a surface of 65.000 km2 and 20 million citizens. The climate is tropical and mild with high humidity. Its fauna is one of the richest in the world and in fact 15% of the territory is dedicated to the preservation of wild life. This country exports coffee, tea and coconut, and is well-known as a tourist destination.

TIPS: VISA, LOCAL FOOD, TUK TUK AND PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

We recommend you get a visa online through the web ETA Sri Lanka for 30$ and you will be able to stay in the country for 30 days. If your budget is low and you wish to get the most out of your trip we advise you experience food in small restaurants, and food on the street so you will taste the traditional national food, full of different flavours and spices, like curry rice, fried noodles, kottu or the famous coconut roti. Rent a tuk tuk for around 10 euros per day, which is a good alternative of transportation. The public transportation is affordable and tends to be full of people, old and not punctual. You surely remember the tsunami of 2004. In Sri Lanka you will find evacuation signs everywhere in case of tsunami: Go inland and visit high mountains.

CURRENCY AND PRICES IN SRI LANKA

The official currency is the Sri Lankan Rupee (LKR). 1euro is equivalent to 149,8 rupees and 1 American dollar is equivalent to 132,7 rupees. A coke will cost you 40 rupees, a coconut around 50 rupees just like one hour using public transportation and a bier is worth 210 rupees.
